AI Consultant Brisbane: What Tradies Should Ask First

ai consultant brisbane

If you’ve typed “AI consultant Brisbane” into a search bar lately, you’ll know the results are a mixed bag. Big tech firms, marketing agencies, one-person operators and plenty of people who’ve added “AI” to their business name this year.

For a trade or construction business, that makes it hard to know who to trust. So here’s our honest take, as a Brisbane-based team that works only with trade businesses, on where to start and what to ask.

Start With the Free Stuff (Seriously)

Before you pay anyone, it’s worth knowing what’s on offer for free around Brisbane right now.

Brisbane City Council is running a free, hands-on workshop called “Reclaim your time with AI” on Wednesday 28 October at the Suburban Business Hub in Nundah. It covers writing prompts for emails and admin, picking the right tool for different tasks, and spotting repetitive work that could be automated. You need to work in a business in the Brisbane local government area to register.

There’s also a free Leveraging AI microcredential for Queensland small and family businesses, run as six weekly two-hour workshops with online delivery if you can’t get there in person.

We think these are a great idea. If you or your office manager want to understand what AI can do, go along. You’ll come back with a better feel for the tools and better questions to ask.

Where Workshops Stop

A workshop teaches you what AI can do. It doesn’t set it up around your jobs, your systems and your team.

That’s usually where trade businesses get stuck. The office manager comes back keen, tries a few things, and then the busy season hits. The quote that’s gone quiet at twelve days still needs chasing. Tuesday’s site photos are still on someone’s phone. Nobody has the time to connect it all up and keep it running.

That’s the gap a good AI consultant in Brisbane should fill. Not more theory, but the set-up, the training and the follow-through.

Questions to Ask Any AI Consultant

Whoever you talk to, these questions will tell you a lot.

Do You Know How a Trade Business Runs?

Jobs, quotes, variations, subbies, call-outs. If you have to explain what a variation is, that’s a lot of your time spent teaching them. Ask for examples from businesses like yours, in your trade.

Will You Use What’s Already Out There?

Much of what a trade office needs now exists as ready-made AI, some of it already inside software you pay for. A good consultant starts there and only builds from scratch when your data or the way you run jobs genuinely calls for it. If the first answer is a big custom build, ask why.

Where Does Our Information Go?

Before anything gets plugged in, they should check where your customer and job information goes and who can see it. If privacy rules come into it, they should flag them so you can run them past your lawyer.

Who Shows Our Team How?

If your staff can’t drive and adjust the tools themselves, you’ll be ringing the consultant every time something changes. Training your people should be part of the job.

What Happens in Six Months?

AI tools are changing fast. Ask who keeps an eye on things after set-up, how problems get sorted and how you’ll know what it’s saving.

Will You Tell Us If It’s Not Worth It?

Sometimes the honest answer is “not yet”. A consultant who never says that is selling, not advising.

How Our Team Works

Most trade owners who find us by searching “AI consultant Brisbane” have one of two reasons. The office is flat out with repetitive admin, or they want to work out how to adopt AI without becoming a tech expert themselves.

We’re AI4Tradies, the trades and construction arm of CopilotHQ, based in Brisbane City. We work in four steps: find where AI fits, set it up right, show your team how, and keep an eye on it. We don’t sell one product, so we pick what suits your business, and your team stays in charge of anything that goes to a customer.

It’s a bit like hiring an apprentice. We don’t make the apprentice. We pick the right one for the job, set them up properly, show your team how to work with them, and keep an eye on them after.

A Good First Step

Whether you go to a workshop, call us or do both, it helps to know where your office time goes. Our capacity calculator takes a few minutes and shows how many hours your office carries each week, where they sit and the first thing we’d look at. No sign-up needed to see the result.
